Traprain was retained by Aker Kvaerner Operations Ltd to assist in the project to take over Duty Holder status on Hess’ AH001 platform in the UK sector of the North Sea. AH001 is a floating production facility supporting the Ivanhoe and Rob Roy oil fields, with further fields operated by other companies tied in and producing across the platform.
This is a complicated and, at that stage, unusual arrangement in the offshore industry, requiring the creation of a bespoke contractual structure to enable Aker Kvaerner Operations Ltd to take over full responsibility for the Operational Safety Case. Traprain worked to find practical but legally robust solutions for the client to enable the transaction to take place in a relatively short period of time as required by all parties.
The project required Traprain to take account of the interests and requirements of a number of parties, including other oilfield operators, and Governmental bodies. The project is an important part of a long-term strategy for Aker Kvaerner Operations, and its completion was, therefore, important to the business.
“Traprain responded to all our requests for advice and assistance in a prompt fashion and provided sound practical advice at every stage in the transaction.” Ingvar Storhaug, Aker Kvaerner Operations.
