Contract development
Traprain provided consultancy advice to British Nuclear Fuels Ltd at Sellafield to assist with the development of Alliance-based contracting for a range of construction projects on this highly complex and sensitive site. In-depth analysis and consultation enabled Traprain to provide advice which improved contracting strategies. The result was a reduced risk of cost overruns, improved predictability and reduced potential for dispute throughout the life cycle of each project.
Sellafield is the major nuclear fuel reprocessing site in Europe, and had a history of cost and time overruns on construction projects. Quality had to remain paramount, but new ways of contracting, involving a less adversarial approach, were developed to assist BNFL in improving the predictability of projects, and reduce such overruns.
Traprain also assisted BNFL in face-to-face negotiations with a range of contractors involved with construction issues on the Sellafield site and associated locations.
